I was rummaging through some old files and came across my father\u2019s favorite. Poem that is. Even though he knew it line-by-line he kept a crumpled copy stuffed away in a bulging leather wallet. Going through our family record I saw an original that he had typed out on an old Remington typewriter. I read it again for the first time. To know this poem is to know my Father. Humble. Direct. Wisdom drawn from experience. Appropriately titled: \u201cAs you go through life.&#8221;<\/div>\n<div><\/div>\n<p><\/p>\n<div><em>Don\u2019t look for the flaws as you go through life;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And even when you find them,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It is wise and kind to be somewhat blind<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And look for the virtue behind them.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>For the cloudiest night has a hint of light<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Somewhere in its shadows hiding;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It is better by far to hunt for a star,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Than the spots on the sun abiding. <\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The current of life runs ever away<\/em><br \/>\n<em>To the bosom of God\u2019s great ocean.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Don\u2019t set your force \u2018gainst the river\u2019s course<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And think to alter its motion.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Don\u2019t waste a curse on the universe \u2013<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Remember it lived before you.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Don\u2019t butt at the storm with your puny form,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>But bend and let it go o\u2019er you.<\/em><\/p>\n<p><em>The world will never adjust itself<\/em><br \/>\n<em>To suit your whims to the letter.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>Some things must go wrong your whole life long,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And the sooner you know it the better.<\/em><br \/>\n<em>It is folly to fight with the Infinite,<\/em><br \/>\n<em>And go under at last in the wrestle;<\/em><br \/>\n<em>The wiser man shapes into God\u2019s plan<\/em><br \/>\n<em>As water shapes into a vessel.<\/em><\/div>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>For all the lovers of poetry out there.
