Life as we knew it then was crowded, full, expansive, exhilarating.<\/p>\n<p>A companion magazine to Life was &#8220;Time.&#8221;   Time.   Now there&#8217;s a title.  Einstein himself could not have asked for a title more expansive or endless than that.  Time puts us within the arc of history.  It provides a context to what was, is, and will be.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/people-magazine.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-full wp-image-247\" style=\"float: left; margin: 8px;\" title=\"people-magazine\" src=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/people-magazine.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"68\" height=\"90\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/people-magazine.jpg 972w, https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/people-magazine-227x300.jpg 227w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 68px) 100vw, 68px\" \/><\/a>Then in the 80s and 90s came a new publication.\u00a0  A publication interestingly enough that was born out of &#8220;Time&#8221; magazine.\u00a0  The magazine was &#8220;People.&#8221;\u00a0  Apparently the publishers of &#8220;Time&#8221; found out that the most popular page in &#8220;Time&#8221; was the &#8220;People&#8221; page.\u00a0  So they turned the &#8220;People&#8221; page into its own magazine.<\/p>\n<p>People.\u00a0  No longer was it all about the globe, the society, the trends, the ideas, the community.\u00a0   No, It was the individuals, the celebrities, the rich and famous.\u00a0   And if you weren&#8217;t a legitimate celebrity you could become one through a accidents (like falling down a well) that made you a celebrity for a day (or, in this case, an issue).\u00a0  Your world got smaller.\u00a0  It was a world not of history, movements, and ideology &#8230; it was a world of paparazzi, gawkers, show boats, egos, and pretty people that were &#8220;larger than life.&#8221;\u00a0 People.\u00a0 Larger than Life indeed.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/self-magazine.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-thumbnail wp-image-248\" style=\"float: left; margin: 8px;\" title=\"SELF MAGAZINE COVER\" src=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/self-magazine-150x150.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"75\" height=\"75\" \/><\/a>I guess it was inevitable then that we ended up with this &#8230; one of the more popular magazines today &#8230; &#8220;Self.&#8221;\u00a0  That&#8217;s right.\u00a0  Self.\u00a0  The publishers shamefully dropped the &#8220;ish&#8221; but they might just as well have kept it in the title.\u00a0  It probably would have improved sales.<\/p>\n<p>So we went from Life to People to &#8230; me!\u00a0   Just me.\u00a0  With an exclamation point.<\/p>\n<p>From looking out and looking around to looking inward; from looking at our world to looking in the mirror.\u00a0 It is no longer about life.\u00a0  It is all about me.\u00a0 From gazing at the globe to gazing at our navel.<\/p>\n<p>Then came new media.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/worldwidewebpic2.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-full wp-image-245\" style=\"float: left; margin: 8px;\" title=\"worldwidewebpic2\" src=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/worldwidewebpic2.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"139\" height=\"44\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/worldwidewebpic2.jpg 2177w, https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/worldwidewebpic2-300x95.jpg 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 139px) 100vw, 139px\" \/><\/a>First we had the world wide web.\u00a0  Now there is an expansive label.  It is world wide.\u00a0 I&#8217;m talking global, ubiquitous, all-inclusive all encompassing.\u00a0 It casts a wide shadow.\u00a0  It kindles up religious ideas of an omnipresent force.<\/p>\n<p>But the world was too much to handle.\u00a0 So we came up with personal web logs or blogs.\u00a0\u00a0  Blogs like this one.  And blogs like this one are all about a platform for me to share, rant, converse, have fun.\u00a0  Anybody and everybody can play.\u00a0  But I&#8217;m carving out my own little community and conversation.\u00a0 Indeed, I don&#8217;t want the world&#8217;s approbation.\u00a0 Just my own little band of Juice Bar junkies.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/twitter_logo.png\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-244\" style=\"float: left; margin: 8px;\" title=\"twitter_logo\" src=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/twitter_logo.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"136\" height=\"51\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/twitter_logo.png 1234w, https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/05\/twitter_logo-300x110.png 300w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 136px) 100vw, 136px\" \/><\/a>Finally there was Twitter.\u00a0 This is hardly a conversation.\u00a0 It is digital voyeurism.\u00a0 We lose the narrative.\u00a0   There is no story.\u00a0  There is no context save a reference point in time and place.\u00a0 Indeed, there barely is thought.\u00a0  Just reactions, impulses and one-liners.\u00a0   A series of not-so-random images, reactions, and data points.<\/p>\n<p>Help!<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;m communications and I&#8217;m melting.\u00a0 I&#8217;m getting narrower, tinier, smaller.<\/p>\n<p>I used to have a conversation.<\/p>\n<p>Then I shouted out into the ether seeing who&#8217;d listen.<\/p>\n<p>Now &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>Tweet.
