{"id":303,"date":"2008-11-09T15:30:46","date_gmt":"2008-11-09T22:30:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/?p=303"},"modified":"2008-11-09T15:30:46","modified_gmt":"2008-11-09T22:30:46","slug":"explaining-a-brands-success-an-obama-case-study","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/?p=303","title":{"rendered":"Explaining a Brand&#8217;s Success:  An Obama Case Study"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>Note, before reading the following you should know that I worked and voted for Barak Obama for president.\u00a0 With that as an important caveat, here&#8217;s my brand lesson from the Obama victory.<\/p>\n<p><strong><a href=\"http:\/\/en.wikipedia.org\/wiki\/John_F_Kennedy\" target=\"_blank\">JFK<\/a><\/strong>, the president to whom the current president-elect is most often compared, once said:<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;<strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.quotationspage.com\/quote\/36970.html\" target=\"_blank\">Victory has a thousand fathers, defeat is an orphan<\/a><\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>In this case, the President was talking about a defeat (The Bay of Pigs).<\/p>\n<p>But let&#8217;s consider Kennedy&#8217;s quote in the context of Senator Barak Obama&#8217;s historic presidential victory over Senator McCain last November 4th.<\/p>\n<p>Today there are many &#8220;fathers&#8221; being offered up explain Obama&#8217;s victory.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/obamalogo.jpg\"><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft alignnone size-medium wp-image-304\" style=\"float: left; margin: 8px;\" title=\"obamalogo\" src=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/obamalogo.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"101\" height=\"101\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/obamalogo.jpg 300w, https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2008\/11\/obamalogo-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 101px) 100vw, 101px\" \/><\/a>Most attribute the &#8220;father&#8221; of the Obama victory to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.bloomberg.com\/apps\/news?pid=20601087&amp;refer=home&amp;sid=a39d2UwJGTbI\" target=\"_blank\">history<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Specifically, the timing of the market meltdown and economic crisis.\u00a0 Others say the &#8220;father&#8221; of the Obama victory was, in fact, a woman &#8212; namely, the McCain&#8217;s pick of Alaska Governor Sarah Palin as a running mate.\u00a0 Still others say the &#8220;father&#8221; of the Obama victory was technology.\u00a0 In this case they were talking about the incredible <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.boston.com\/news\/nation\/articles\/2008\/11\/06\/a_changed_strategy_preceded_a_changed_electoral_landscape\/\" target=\"_blank\">online money and organizing machine<\/a><\/strong> that the Obama campaign was able to build.<\/p>\n<p>All would-be &#8220;fathers&#8221; list their reasons and point to alleged &#8220;causal&#8221; relationships between one action or development and Obama&#8217;s surge in the polls in the last 30 days.<\/p>\n<p>But could the &#8220;father&#8221; of the Obama victory be simply this &#8212; of the two, he was simply found to be the better brand?<\/p>\n<p>He won every debate &#8230; and by wide margins.\u00a0 Could it be that people simply looked at both brands and said to themselves,<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Hmmm, I&#8217;ll take that one.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Could the brand lesson from the Obama campaign be &#8230; start (and end) with a good product?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>Note, before reading the following you should know that I worked and voted for Barak Obama for president.\u00a0 With that as an important caveat, here&#8217;s my brand lesson from the Obama victory.
