{"id":379,"date":"2009-08-14T13:26:32","date_gmt":"2009-08-14T20:26:32","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/?p=379"},"modified":"2009-08-19T19:14:44","modified_gmt":"2009-08-20T02:14:44","slug":"words-matter-capitalism-sucks-free-enterprise-is-great","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/?p=379","title":{"rendered":"Words matter:  &#8220;Capitalism&#8221; sucks; &#8220;free enterprise&#8221; is great &#8230;"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;re a free market,\u00a0 capitalist, Milton Freidman, private enterprise, Ronald Reagan, market-driven type of person.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-385\" style=\"margin: 8px;\" title=\"rich2\" src=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/rich2.jpg\" alt=\"rich2\" width=\"178\" height=\"252\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/rich2.jpg 309w, https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/08\/rich2-213x300.jpg 213w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 178px) 100vw, 178px\" \/>Then along comes the great market meltdown.\u00a0 Unregulated capitalism goes crazy.\u00a0 Markets melt down.\u00a0 Some capital owners get dinged but most capitalists do well.\u00a0 Meanwhile consumers take it on the chin.\u00a0 CEOs still pull down healthy checks but blue collars are standing in welfare lines.<\/p>\n<p>Capitalism is under attack.<\/p>\n<p>What to do?<\/p>\n<p>The U.S. Chamber of Commerce decides to launch a campaign to <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.lonelyconservative.com\/2009\/08\/12\/capitalism-out-free-enterprise-in\/\" target=\"_blank\">defend capitalism<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 Only one problem.\u00a0 People think capitalism sucks.\u00a0 Capitalism is <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.openmarket.org\/2009\/08\/12\/as-long-as-its-free\/\" target=\"_blank\">greed<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>So what do like? They like &#8220;free&#8221;!\u00a0 Specifically, free enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;Free&#8221; is so much more compelling than the &#8220;enterprise.&#8221;\u00a0 Capitalism is dead.\u00a0 Long live free enterprise.<\/p>\n<p>Only one caveat.<\/p>\n<p>What then are enterprises &#8220;free&#8221; to do?\u00a0 Anything?<\/p>\n<p>Isn&#8217;t that capitalism?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>You&#8217;re a free market,\u00a0 capitalist, Milton Freidman, private enterprise, Ronald Reagan, market-driven type of person.
