{"id":392,"date":"2009-09-01T03:09:20","date_gmt":"2009-09-01T10:09:20","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/?p=392"},"modified":"2009-09-01T08:51:07","modified_gmt":"2009-09-01T15:51:07","slug":"the-rise-of-the-no-tweeting-zone","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/?p=392","title":{"rendered":"The rise of the &#8220;NO TWEETING&#8221; zone"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>According to the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/bits.blogs.nytimes.com\/2009\/08\/14\/actors-complain-about-snarky-tweets-during-auditions\/?scp=6&amp;sq=multitasking&amp;st=cse\" target=\"_blank\">New York Times<\/a><\/strong>, casting directors are now Tweeting as they audition for talent.\u00a0 The main culprit in the Times story was <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.decasting.com\/news.html\" target=\"_blank\">Daryl Eisenberg<\/a><\/strong>.\u00a0 In anticipation of criticism, Eisenberg issued a &#8220;free speech&#8221; defense &#8230; specifically \u201cThere is NO rule\/guideline against Twitter\/Facebook\/MySpace\/Friendster. Freedom of speech. Ever heard of it?\u201d<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-393\" style=\"margin: 8px;\" title=\"6a00d835466f3a53ef0115711bfbf9970b-800wi\" src=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/6a00d835466f3a53ef0115711bfbf9970b-800wi.jpg\" alt=\"6a00d835466f3a53ef0115711bfbf9970b-800wi\" width=\"207\" height=\"207\" srcset=\"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/6a00d835466f3a53ef0115711bfbf9970b-800wi.jpg 258w, https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/09\/6a00d835466f3a53ef0115711bfbf9970b-800wi-150x150.jpg 150w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 207px) 100vw, 207px\" \/>I wonder if Eisenberg would be so charitable if someone else was Tweeting about him every time he, say, applied for a job or pitched a show idea.<\/p>\n<p>And if I use Eisenberg&#8217;s logic, does it mean I can Tweet while I interview candidates at <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.brodeur.com\" target=\"_blank\">Brodeur Partners<\/a><\/strong>?\u00a0 How would that work?\u00a0 Something like &#8230;<\/p>\n<blockquote><p>&#8220;Hold on, you just said something really stupid, funny, incipient, lame, insightful [pick one].\u00a0 My folks got to hear about this one.\u00a0 Just a second while I grab my <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.blackberry.com\" target=\"_blank\">BlackBerry<\/a><\/strong>. &#8221;<\/p>\n<p>&#8230; or &#8230;<\/p>\n<p>&#8220;I know I&#8217;m not looking at you but I&#8217;m listening &#8230; really I am.\u00a0 You have no idea how focused I am on you and your well being right now.\u00a0\u00a0 And to prove it I&#8217;m tweeting to my 5,000 followers on Twitter &#8212; most of whom I don&#8217;t know and, to be frank really don&#8217;t care to know &#8212;\u00a0 about what you just said.\u00a0 Can you repeat that again, a bit slowly?\u00a0 BTW, your mannerisms also crack me up.\u00a0 Can you do that thing with your hands again?\u00a0 I may need some time to figure out how to text that in 140 characters.&#8221;<\/p><\/blockquote>\n<p>To me, the offense is not one of publicity.\u00a0 Eisenberg didn&#8217;t name names.\u00a0 The offense is one of civility.<\/p>\n<p>There are limits to multitasking &#8212; or at least there should be.\u00a0 Besides, the same NewYorkTimes a week later confirmed what we all have known for awhile &#8212; <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.nytimes.com\/2009\/08\/30\/weekinreview\/30pennebaker.html?_r=1&amp;scp=7&amp;sq=multitasking&amp;st=cse\" target=\"_blank\">multitasking makes you mediocre<\/a><\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>Mediocre.\u00a0 That&#8217;s worse that being stupid.<\/p>\n<p>Are there places where people should simply not tweet?<\/p>\n<p>Apparently the folks at the <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/mashable.com\/2009\/08\/28\/us-open-twitter\/\" target=\"_blank\">U.S. Open tennis tournament<\/a><\/strong> think so.\u00a0 The sad part is that the reasons they give have more to do with commerce than decorum and civility.\u00a0 (There&#8217;s a fear is that it would screw up tennis gambling)<\/p>\n<p>Where are your no tweet zones?<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>According to the New York Times, casting directors are now Tweeting as they audition for talent.\u00a0 The main culprit in the Times story was Daryl Eisenberg.\u00a0 In anticipation of criticism, Eisenberg issued a &#8220;free speech&#8221; defense &#8230; specifically \u201cThere is NO rule\/guideline against Twitter\/Facebook\/MySpace\/Friendster.
