{"id":428,"date":"2009-10-26T11:01:46","date_gmt":"2009-10-26T18:01:46","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/?p=428"},"modified":"2009-10-26T11:01:46","modified_gmt":"2009-10-26T18:01:46","slug":"priorities","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"https:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/?p=428","title":{"rendered":"Priorities"},"content":{"rendered":"<p>There are a handful of ideas that to me are as elusive as an autumnal breeze.<\/p>\n<p>One of them is the idea of &#8220;priority&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p>It is not that I don&#8217;t know what is a priority.<\/p>\n<p><img decoding=\"async\" loading=\"lazy\" class=\"alignleft size-full wp-image-429\" style=\"margin: 8px;\" title=\"5611_urgent_vs_important_perma\" src=\"http:\/\/jerrysjuicebar.com\/blog\/wp-content\/uploads\/2009\/10\/5611_urgent_vs_important_perma.gif\" alt=\"5611_urgent_vs_important_perma\" width=\"160\" height=\"118\" \/>It is that I have trouble making priorities a priority.<\/p>\n<p>What made me think of all this is a scribbled note of a quote mentioned at a company meeting last week in New York.\u00a0 The quote was attributed to Tom &#8220;The Dean&#8221; Watson.\u00a0 He&#8217;s called &#8220;The Dean&#8221; because of his role behind <strong><a href=\"http:\/\/www.omnicom.com\" target=\"_blank\">Omnicom <\/a><\/strong>University.<\/p>\n<p>Watson&#8217;s dictum:\u00a0 &#8220;<strong>The urgent always crowds out the important<\/strong>.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>I&#8217;d say that defines the term &#8220;trenchant observation.&#8221;<\/p>\n<p>Let&#8217;s all put aside the urgent and tend to the important.<\/p>\n","protected":false},"excerpt":{"rendered":"<p>There are a handful of ideas that to me are as elusive as an autumnal breeze.
